Five Things I Hate About Back to School
I was always a school kid growing up. I loved getting my new backpack, picking out exactly the right Lisa Frank folder for each class and meeting new teachers and friends on the first dayl. I even liked the bus (for a little while). But as a mom in a house with four kids, in two different schools, back-to-school has taken on a whole new feeling for me. At this stage of life, back-to-school is a bit more of a slog and keeping track of all of the to-dos is going to take a lot more than a shiny new Trapper Keeper.
So here is my not quite definitive list of why back-to-school as a mom is the worst:
1. Back to School Night is a crazy race, trying to hit two schools in different parts of town with conflicting schedules. No thanks!
2. School Supplies are a nightmare, especially when you can't find that one specific brand of colored pencils anywhere. Why aren't stores stocked? And why do I always procrastinate?
3. Lunches are my nightmare. Packing them, remembering lunch money, ordering ahead for future food trucks—it's all a mess. Just give me PB&J!
4. PTA Committees sound nice, but who has the time or organization to remember to bake nut-free brownies for the bake sale? Not this mom! I can’t even remember to put $2 in their bottomless backpacks.
5. Forms at the Bottom of Their Backpacks are the absolute worst. Teens and tweens turn backpacks into black holes, and you only find out about important forms when deadlines are missed and kids are upset. Forms: 1, Mom: 0.
